Private Lessons:
If you live in the Los Angeles metro area, contact me to set up a private lesson for yourself. gather your friends, your parents, maybe your entire highschool, or college team. I can teach everyone at any level and any age. Well, let's keep it at ages 6+, but either way, I will adjust my teaching style accordingly. we can pinpoint exactly what moves or styles you wish to learn. if you just love dance and prefer more of a cardio and athletic workout, this can be arranged as well. did i mention private lessons make great gifts.
Workshops:
Don't live in LA? Fear not my soon to be amazing dancer. This is why us humans have invented vehicles of transportation. I would love to come to where you are and teach a Dance Workshop. Most Workshops I have been involved with consist of 5 days wit h3 classes daily. Depending how intense you would prefer the training to be , we can push it to 4 or 5 classes per day. Dance Battles and Live Performances can also be arranged which add a extremely challenging, "street", and of course FUN element to the workshop week.
On The Web:
So you don’t live in la, don’t have the capacity for a workshop yet, BUT you are such a huge fan of how I teach, (right …. right??) how are you possibly going to learn how to dance? The solution is ONLINE! visit breakdancedvd.com and bam there are your lessons. I’ve made a breakdance/hiphop dance series available on dvd, downloads to your psp, ipod, or computer or you can view all of the lessons for free on youtube.
What Do I teach?
I specialize in streetdance which consists of almost all of the styles that fall under the mainstream umbrella of hiphop and breakdance. These styles include:
Breaking | Locking | Popping | Wacking/Punkin | House | Robot | New Jack Swing | Booty Shaking
Basic Rhythm Training {fundamental dance movement(s)}
What Makes a Good Teacher?
I dance and I teach dance. However, the two do not always coincide. the best dancers in the world are not necessarily the best teachers. often times you can ask them, “how’d you do that?,” and many times the response is, “i just do.”When I first started dancing, it was extremely difficult to find a good teacher or really any street dance instructor! Of course, this was before the new media explosion and what is now web 2.0.What really makes a good teacher? The first ingredient is a passion for teaching! DUh! In other words, someone who gets excited when they see their students “get it.” The second ingredient and of equal importance is the ability to explain how you do the moves. I mix both ingredients, and add the element of a comfortable / non-judgemental environment to the recipe. I understand it can be extremely intimidating to even attempt to move your body in any way shape or form even before the pressure of moving on beat gets added. Take a look at this post I wrote about good teachers.
